Let Ride $25 Begin! This is the start of the Vermont Ride $25 weekend. You get to ride anywhere in Vermont for the whole weekend for just $25 and that $ goes directly to your favorite club (pick us, please!). Buy your ticket on VAST's site, vtvast.org.
Mother Nature is opening the weekend with some freshies. Albeit, it is probably just a dusting but it has been snowing this morning unexpectedly for a least a couple of hours already and has given us a solid coating. Weather is supposed to be nice and the Warming Hut will be stocked with hot cocoa. Located at WR-41 by 127A/127B. Feel free to build a fire in the woodstove. There is also a porta potty up there.
IMPORTANT reminder: The Catamount trail, a snowshoe and cross-country ski trail, will be detoured onto the VAST trail 7 on Okemo for the entire length of Government/Healdville Road for the 2024/2025 season because of the timber sale. Please be extra alert to people on the trail there. Map here.
Conditions are pretty much the same as last week but with the bonus that more area clubs are open so you can venture a bit further. Thin, and bony, early conditions with rocks and water bars and hazards. Not enough snow to groom yet and fill in water bars, etc. Take it easy and be ready for the unexpected so you don't damage you or your sled. Weather should be beautiful so while the riding isn't great, take an extra moment to enjoy the scenery and fresh air and good times with your friends/family.
Next Saturday, Feb 1, we are scheduled to have Safety Check Day at the Cavendish Snow Flea's Ride-In at the Cavendish Cook Shack. Stay tuned...
Pics of 127A this morning (1/24). It's snowing in the pics if you look closely, especially in the sunrise pic.
Enjoy!
