With the cold weather returning, and flurries nearly every day, trails are open for you diehards out there. Ride slowly with caution. Early season, ungroomed, thin cover conditions with exposed hazards exist. OK, OK, trails are admittedly not the best, but we are doing what we can. We had our whole base melted and muddied up not too long ago, but with freezing temps and little bits of snow here and there, it is starting to add up, one inch at a time. Not enough snow to groom yet. Trails are super bony, and need more snow to smooth them out, especially in places like on the back of Okemo where the 2023 flood took a lot of the dirt, you may feel like you're riding on a rocky river bed, but better than last year since a bunch of further flood repair was done this summer. With the cold the last few days it helped the mud freeze up some which helps. There are still open water bars in areas, some are deep as there isn't enough snow to fill them in. Wind has been fierce the past few days so it may have made areas of wind drifts and downed trees that we do not know about. We have been out clearing tons of trees, but this wind may have taken down a few more. All gates should be open, but if there are any closed, please let us know. Wish we had better news on conditions but we are open. Snow Dance, anyone?
Got some trail news to be aware of:
The East Lake Rd access trail is open, but be aware a skidder machine may be making things a little tight. It should be moved soon.
Warming Hut (at WR41) is open and will be stocked with free hot cocoa this weekend. Porta Potty is there.
The "Darcy Trail" (feeder trail from 127A to car route 103) was closed last season (2023/2024) due to the 2023 flood. It will be open this year (2024/2025) but only groomed down to the Pole Barn. Restaurants in that area continue to be closed (Darcy's, Sam's, Subway).
Corridor 127 by Soapstone Rd (above LaValley's) has been straightened a little to make it safer and easier to groom. Follow signs (slight change in trail path).
IMPORTANT: The Catamount trail, a snowshoe and cross-country ski trail, will be detoured onto the VAST trail 127 on Okemo for the entire length of Government/Healdville Road for the 2024/2025 season because of the timber sale. Please be extra alert to people on the trail there. Map here.
Please check with other area clubs to see if their trails are open before leaving the Ludlow area.
If you see anything like downed trees or closed gates, please let us know. Having more eyes on the scene is helpful.
THANK YOU LANDOWNERS for allowing us on your land and THANK YOU VOLUNTEERS for all of your hard work! THINK SNOW! ❄❄❄❄❄❄❄❄
